Tropical Storm Warning In Effect As Hermine Threatens Northeast

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Strengthening Hermine is expected to remain a powerful cyclone for the next few days as it moves off the mid-Atlantic coast.
A dangerous storm surge is expected along the coast, from Virginia to New Jersey.
At 5 p.m. Saturday, the storm was about 175 miles east-southeast of Norfolk, Virginia and about 175 miles southeast of Ocean City, Maryland.
Maximum sustained winds are at 70 mph, moving east-northeast at 12 mph.
The Tropical Storm Warning has been extended northward and eastward from Sandy Hook, New Jersey, to west of Watch Hill, Rhode Island, including Long Island, Long Island Sound, and New York City.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued from Watch Hill, Rhode Island, to Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts, including Block Island, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, and Cape Cod.

Tropical storm conditions will continue to spread northward within the warning area along the Atlantic coast through Sunday.
