MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The stage is just about set for the 28th annual KISS Country Chili Cook Off at C.B. Smith Park in Pembroke Pines on Sunday, January, 27th.
There will be plenty of food, fans and fun, all in the name of country music.
KISS Country's Kenny Walker, U-Turn Laverne and two-time Chili Cook Off winner Tim McAfee joined CBS4's Lisa Petrillo in the CBS4 studio to talk about the big day.
"Ii just love that we live in this great city with great weather," said Kenny Walker. "We don't have as many events this time of year and it's a chance for everyone to get out and enjoy great music."
"This is the biggest cook off in America, the only cook off that has more cooks is the world championship but they don't get any of the crowds, the bands," said McAfee. "This is the big one, the mother of all cook offs."
It's also the mother of all country concerts.
"Luke Bryan is headlining this year," said Kenny Walker. "Headlining his own tour and your gonna get him on Sunday. There's a young lady named Kacey Musgraves that they're saying is the next Taylor Swift."
"Then you've got the Florida Georgia Line, Thompson Square and everyone knows were gonna be doing some boot scoot and boogie because Ronnie Dunn of Brooks and Dunn is huge. It's a star-studded lineup and every year we try to bring one to the table and this year it's a feast," said U-Turn Laverne.
Bryan, who performed at last year's cook off and recently took home nine American Country Music Awards, will sing hits including Drunk on You and I Don't Want This Night to End.
When it comes to chili, 2 time winner Tim has got the beef, namely tri tip sirloin in his. "We just have to stick to ICS rules; which is meat and gravy only, no beans, no pasta, no rice, no fillers of any kind. That kind of separates everybody. All you have is meat and gravy which makes it difficult to judge," said Tim.
CBS4 is one of the proud sponsors of this year's cook off which means you'll see plenty of familiar faces from the news team at the CBS4 on-site booth.
Last year the event attracted 30,000 fans making it the largest country music concert in the Southeast. This year's show, which is already sold out, will be limited to about 20,000 country music and chili fans.
Those planning to go will need to have a parking pass which can be purchased at wkis.com.
