Thousands Of Bikers Gear Up For Key West Poker Run

KEY WEST (CBSMiami/FKNB) – Motorcyclists from around the world are in the Sunshine State for a cruise down the Keys Overseas Highway this weekend all in the name of charity.

The 41st annual Key West Poker Run, which usually brings up to 10,000 bikes, is set to take place this weekend.

The event is a fundraiser for the Diabetes Research Institute and charities of the Key West Sunrise Rotary Club.

Participating bikers will ride 113-miles down the highway which connects the mainland to the Florida Keys. An All-American Highway, the road has a total of 42 bridges spanning the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, Florida Bay and Gulf of Mexico.

Bikers taking part in the cruise draw cards at designated spots along the route. The 10 best hands are eligible to play in a winner-take-all round of Texas Hold 'Em style poker game on Saturday night.

The winner of the Saturday's game has a choice between a brand new Harley-Davidson Sportster motorcycle, or $6,000 cash.

Bikers are able to park and show their bikes on a section of Duval Street, a popular street in Key West, and Greene Street as it's closed to car traffic during much of the Poker Run.
