Former Miami Lakes Mayor Files Second Lawsuit

MIAMI LAKES (CBSMiami) -- Former Miami Lakes Mayor Michael Pizzi filed a second lawsuit on Tuesday in an effort to get his old job back.
Through the second lawsuit, filed in Miami-Dade County Circuit Court, Pizzi wants a court to command the town officials to restore him to office.
Pizzi, who was elected to the position in 2012, was suspended from his position after he was charged with accepting bribes but was later acquitted last year.
In December, the Florida Supreme court ordered that the suspension of Pizzi be revoked. The state's highest court had ordered the revocation and Governor Rick Scott to lift the suspension.

Pizzi had also asked Miami Lakes to arrange for the payment of his legal fees as well as back pay.
Pizzi, who was charged with accepting bribes from undercover FBI agents, was acquitted by a jury in November 2014. But that wasn't before he was replaced by Wayne Slaton who was chosen as new Mayor in a special election.
"It was completely ridiculous. I never should've been charged, I never should've been removed and I should have been reinstated as mayor the day I was exonerated," said Pizzi back in December 2014.
The high court's order does not require that Pizzi be re-instated as Miami Lakes mayor.
In letter to the city, Pizzi's attorney Ben Kuehne said with the revocation of the suspension his client is ready to resume office and finish his term which ends in 2016.
Slaton has said that he's staying on the job.
