Suspected "Tussling Thief" Arrested

LAUDERDALE LAKES (CBSMiami) – Broward Sheriff's detectives believe they've arrested the man who was caught on camera last month robbing a Lauderdale Lakes convenience store.

Nicknamed by BSO the "tussling thief," the guy on the tape punched the clerk of the Stop N'Shop on NW 41st Street repeatedly before taking the cash.  The sheriff's office said an anonymous tip led them to 39-year old Carlos Jones.  They found him at a Pompano Beach homeless shelter on Wednesday.  During questioning, Jones admitted to the robbery, according to the sheriff's office.

The surveillance video, taken March 4th, first shows a man walk into the store and behind the counter where he punched the employee several time.

After a brief tussle, he walked back around the counter and leaves. But he wasn't gone long. A few moments later, the man ran back into the store and jumped over the counter.  He then demanded that the employee open the register. Once he did, the thief grabbed all the cash and ran out of the store.

Jones has been charged with one county of strong-arm robbery and two counts of battery.
