Start Of The Rainy Season Is Late, But Coming

MIAMI (CBS4) - It's been hot, it's been dry and lots of people are wondering where the heck is all the rain we usually get at this time of year.

CBS4 meteorologist Jeff Berardelli said so far May has been a very dry month. Ft. Lauderdale International Airport has only received about a quarter inch of rain, which is about four inches below normal. The rainy season typically begins in the middle to end of May and Berardelli says this year it is coming on the late side, but 'there is rain at the end of our tunnel'.

Berardelli said the forecast call for a better chance of rain on Friday in the Memorial Day weekend. A weak upper low will move over, and perhaps settle near, South Florida over the weekend. At the same time some moisture, which is currently situated to the southeast, will get drawn to the north.

At this point it is too early to tell how rainy the weekend will be, said Berardelli who added that it does look as though, at the very least, we will see scattered showers and storms. It is that scattered variety of hit and miss rain that goes along with rainy season, according to Berardelli who said we should expect some of the first showers to arrive by late week.
