Sports Agenda For Wednesday (3/30/11)
Big Story:
Hmm…gee I wonder what people are talking about today? Okay, first off, did it matter that LeBron wasn't out there for player introductions. No, it doesn't matter. But if you listen to Skip Bayless of ESPN2, he's a coward.
Look, I'm not a shill for LeBron. But, c'mon man. You really need to understand sports before you get up there and run your big mouth about things you know nothing about. Do you really think it could have been any worse than last December 2 when LeBron visited Cleveland? Seriously man, shut your big piehole. Of course there's a reason why he's on ESPN2.
The Heat lost, the Marlins won, someone told me the Panthers are still playing (who knew?), and the Fins are looking at tight ends and passing on Ryan Mallett, maybe. On to the agenda.
Heat: (@ Washington Wizards 7:00 p.m. Sun Sports)
Well, the Heat certainly laid an egg in Cleveland. But honestly, who really wants to play well in Cleveland, it is Cleveland and no one wants to live in Cleveland….well, at least no sports fans that like to win.
But, to be there were a couple of telling things in the game. First, the Cavs dominated the rebounding, 44-30. That's gonna hurt in the playoffs. Bosh couldn't get going and finished with 10 points and only one defensive rebound. Yikes, but he has been playing at a torrid pace lately, so he was due for an off game.
LeBron finished with a triple-double, which is beginning to become ho-hum for him. What was impressive was Mike Bibby. He went off from 3-point range on the way to 23 points on 7-11 from downtown. That's the kind of scoring the Heat need to help LeBron and Wade. Now, if Mario Chalmers can come back from his injury and give quality minutes either starting or off the bench, and suddenly the Heat are a little more dangerous.
Yes they lost. Yes they lost to the worst team in basketball. They're focused on the playoffs and these games aren't that important to them except for playoff positioning.
Trust me, I'd hate to be the Washington Wizards tonight.
One note to Pat Riley….please get rid of the slow as Christmas Erick Dampier in the offseason. Seriously, 12 minutes, 1 rebound and 0 points?!!?
Marlins: (@ New York Mets 12:10 p.m.)
Yup, the Marlins are looking to finish off the month of March with an eleven game winning streak as they head into the regular season. It's a unique matchup because the Marlins play the same Mets team on Friday for opening night.
I don't know, maybe I'm an eternal optimist, but I think the Fish may be close to competing for second in the NL East against the Braves.
Panthers:
So apparently the Panthers are still playing…and still losing. I'm just saying, but the Panthers are only 2 points out of last place in the Eastern Conference. Seriously, the Panthers should just go ahead and forfeit their remaining games and give up. They are just pathetic. It's a franchise that's been run into the ground year after year and something needs to be done with them. If you asked me about their execution, I'd tell you I'm all for it. (love that quote from John McKay!!!)
Dolphins:
They were in Arkansas yesterday to check out Ryan Mallett throw to the Fins' real target, D.J. Williams. He's a 6'2", 250 pound tight end. That's a little short for today's tight ends, but the Fins will pick a tight end somewhere in the draft. Williams will likely be available in the third round. He's probably the number two or three tight end in the draft.
