Sports Agenda For Monday (3/28/11)

Big Story:
I was really hoping to be able to write about both Florida schools making it to the Final Four this morning. Yeah, about that. FSU lost a heartbreaker to VCU and UF got smacked in the mouth by Butler. That said, UConn has the best player left, whether or not that means anything is yet to be seen. Maybe it's just me, but wouldn't a national champion of VCU or Butler be just freaking AWESOME.

Ah, playing it on the court so you can truly determine a national champion by how good you play instead of how you're ranked. Hey BCS yahoos, what a novel concept eh?

Heat: (Tuesday @ Cleveland Cavaliers 7:00 p.m. Sun Sports)
Well, the Heat continued their torrid pace since March 10. They've only lost once since losing five in a row. The Heat are playing like a team and the wins have included blowouts of the San Antonio Spurs, Atlanta Hawks, and Philadelphia 76ers.

Last night's victory over the Houston Rockets saw the Big 3 each score more than 30 points. Plus, Mike Bibby shot 80 percent from behind the arc to add 14 points to the Heat's victory. It was impressive to watch the Heat come down the stretch against a team above .500 and win in the fourth quarter. While it's still just the Rockets, it's nice to see some role players getting some playing time and easing the load of minutes on LeBron, Wade, and Bosh.

Next up is the Cleveland Cavaliers who are currently 14-58 for the season. They'll boo LeBron again, but at this point, boo him all you want, the Heat are headed to the playoffs!

FYI: If the playoffs started today, I believe the Heat would be matched up in the first found with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Marlins: (@ St. Louis Cardinals 1:05 p.m. (Split-Squad) and (@ New York Mets 1:10 p.m.)
The Marlins continued winning over the weekend, knocking off the St. Louis Cardinals and the Washington Nationals on Saturday and Sunday. After starting out horribly to open up March, ever since the 17th, the Fish have only lost one game. Not bad as the season approaches.

The Fish will open the regular season on Friday night at 7:10 p.m. at Sun Life Stadium. You can get a free magnetic schedule and see a fireworks show after the game. The season will start with a three game series against the bankrupt New York Mets.

NFL Update:
No news is bad news on the labor front. Everything will come to a head on April 6. That's when the NFL players will seek an injunction preventing the league from imposing a lockout. If the league wins, the players will begin to crumble quickly. If the player's win, who knows what will happen, but at this point, the public is so sick and tired of these overpaid millionaire players and the egotistical billionaire owners squabble over how to divide up $9 billion in revenue.
