South Florida sees another morning with dangerously low temperatures, brutal wind chill
Temperatures in South Florida plunged again overnight, prompting a NEXT Weather Alert due to Freeze Warnings and Cold Weather Advisories.
A Freeze Warning was in effect for inland areas of Broward and Miami-Dade counties until 9 a.m. Monday due to temperatures dropping to 32 degrees or below. In addition to that, a Cold Weather Advisory was in effect for Broward and Miami-Dade counties until 10 a.m. due to wind chill temperatures in the low to mid-20s for some neighborhoods.
Both of those have since expired.
South Florida woke up to frigid temperatures once again in the 30s on Groundhog Day, so it will feel very similar to what we experienced on Sunday.
"You definitely want to bundle up," CBS News Miami Meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez said early Monday morning. "You want to add an extra winter coat, if you have a puffy coat, absolutely. Why not? This is the time to wear it. We're not used to this kind of weather. It's a shock to our system and it can be dangerous, too. Especially for the little ones getting ready for school."
It will stay chilly and breezy throughout the day with high temperatures only in the upper 50s with mostly sunny skies.
There is also a dangerous risk of rip currents along the Atlantic beaches.
A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for boaters over the Atlantic waters through Tuesday morning. There are no alerts or advisories for boaters over the Keys.
On Monday night, low temperatures will fall to the 40s. It will not be as cold, but still it will still be chilly on Tuesday morning.
High temperatures will be comfortably cool in the upper 60s with plenty of sunshine.
We will enjoy a slight warm up midweek ahead of our next cold front.
Instead of the 30s and 40s, lows will be in the mid to upper 50s on Wednesday and Thursday with milder highs in the low 70s.
It will turn breezy with spotty showers.
Our next cold front arrives by late week and lows will dip down to the low to mid 40s. It will be cool and crisp on Friday with highs in the upper 60s.
We can expect comfortable highs in the low 70s on Saturday and Sunday this weekend.
