TAMPA (CBSMiami) — A case of road rage was caught on camera near Tampa when a driver intentionally ran over a couple on a motorcycle.

"I thought the guy was trying to kill us, obviously," said Navy vet Joe Calderazzo. "You know you don't know what's going through your mind. Is he going to put the car in reverse? Is her going to turn around? Is he going to stop and pull out a gun. You don't know what's going on."

Calderazzo was with a group of fellow bikers out for a ride on Memorial Day when they got into a heated exchange with 31-year old Robert Paul Vance.

"We just ended up pulling up next to him and...started letting him know that we were not pleased with his driving skills. That's when he decided to put the car in reverse, backed up about two feet, turned the wheel, and just ran us over," said Calderazzo.

He escaped with only a broken leg. His friend Melanie - who was also on the motorcycle - was hospitalized overnight - with cuts, scrapes and an injured ankle.

A man who used his cellphone to record Vance driving over Calderazzo's motorcycle, throwing him and his companion to the ground, said he began recording when he felt the situation escalate.

Vance was arrested a short time later and has been charged with a hit and run, a moving traffic violation and aggravated battery. Police say Vance has been previously cited for multiple traffic violations in the past.  They say he admitted to hitting the victim and vehicle, and leaving the scene.
