Report: FIU Throws Top RB Off Team

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Florida International's rushing attack is going to look a lot different than last year's version thanks to an incident over the past weekend.

According to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald, running back Kedrick Rhodes has been thrown off the team "due to a violation of team policy." The Herald reported the specific team violation happened late Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Rhodes was arrested on charges of discharging a weapon on school property, a second-degree felony. In addition, Rhodes faces three misdemeanor charges including discharging a firearm while under the influence, according to the Herald.

With Rhodes out of the fold, the next running back with carries last season was then-freshman Shane Coleman who ran the ball eight times for 34 yards. Rhodes carried the rock in ten games and gained 714 yards and scored four touchdowns.

The leading returning rusher is quarterback Jake Medlock who ran the ball 87 times for 236 yards and three touchdowns in 2012.

FIU ranked seventh in the then-10 team Sun Belt Conference in rushing yards per game in 2012.
