Report: Fins Talking With DE Michael Bennett

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Defensive line isn't a priority for the Dolphins this offseason, but adding a true pass rusher opposite Cameron Wake would be a major addition to an already stout defense.

The Fins may be close to filling that gap as the team welcomed free agent defensive end Michael Bennett for a visit Thursday, according to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald. Bennett has played previously for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Bennett played collegiately at Texas A&M, but was undrafted coming out of college. The 6'4, 274 pound defensive end had 41 tackles, nine sacks, and three forced fumbles in the 2012 season while playing in 16 games.

Bennett was ranked 25th overall in the top 85 free agents, according to's Gregg Rosenthal. Pairing him with Wake could finally pull double teams off the Fins' Pro Bowl defensive end and allow both to wreak havoc for AFC quarterbacks. reported that Bennett has set up a visit with the Detroit Lions and the Buccaneers hope to bring him back. The Dolphins have approximately $21 million in salary cap space left for 2013, according to the Palm Beach Post.
