LAKE WORTH (CBSMiami) -- Authorities said a 27-year-old woman was killed in her apartment after her boyfriend found out she was legally married to a man seeking U.S. citizenship.
Yusef Green was arrested on Monday by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, according to the Sun-Sentinel.
Deputies said last week the victim, Lauren White, was found dead with her neck cut and wrapped in bed sheets inside the apartment the couple shared in the 1700 block of South Dixie Highway.
According to officers, the apartment was a mess and air fresheners were stuffed inside the sheets in an attempt to mask the smell of a decomposing corpse.
The victim's grandmother told deputies that White was receiving $500 a month from a Romanian man she was married to, allegedly a fake marriage that would help grant the man citizenship in the United States.
Green was apprehended in Daytona Beach after family members alerted authorities that he had tried slitting his own wrists.
Green was taken to the hospital and later charged with first-degree murder.
