Off-Duty Officer Victim Of Hit-And-Run Undergoes Surgery

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A Miami Police Officer who was rundown by a hit-and-run driver on Friday night tells CBS4 he will likely have several surgeries and be off the job for several months.
Sgt. Marvin Sanders, a 25-year veteran with the Miami Police Department, is in the hospital recuperating.
He already had one surgery and says he will need at least two more to have pins placed into his leg.
"Now I am here a surgery later. Sore of course with these injures," said Sanders.

Police said Sanders was driving his personal motorcycle on around 7:00 p.m. on NW. 15th Avenue at the intersection of 62nd St when the driver, trying to make a left, crashed into him.
"When the light changed I proceeded to go south and he proceeded to go north and plowed right into me. Basically he paused for a second next to my bike and he just pulled on off and left me there to die," Sanders told CBS4's Travell Eiland.
Sanders was rushed to Jackson Memorial hospital to be treated. Sanders said doctors expect him to be off the job for quite some time.
"I am down for the next few months I guess and that's it," he said.
Officers spent nearly four hours at the crash site trying to find any clues that will help lead them to the hit and run driver.
"It's not only a felony to leave the scene of an accident but in this particular case, this individual we understand, he stepped out of the car looked at him got back in the car and took off," said City of Miami Police officer Rene Pimentel.
Police said they are looking for an older model white two-door Chevy Caprice with a blue antique vehicle license tag.
