MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Opa-locka Police detectives have made an arrest in a bizarre attempted murder case.

As a result, 29-year-old Alejandro Gomez is behind bars.

He told police that David Flores came to his auto shop, AG Auto Finance, to collect a debt.

"I think [Gomez] brought [Flores] there to murder him," said Ola-locka Police Chief James Dobson.

Gomez told police that the two got into a fight and that he shot Flores in self-defense.

The incident happened on Friday, December 14th.

Flores was shot multiple times and could not be interviewed until recently due to his injuries.

Police say Flores told them Gomez owned him $200 and Gomez called Flores to come get the cash.

"Mr. Flores advised a totally different story [than that of Gomez]," said Dobson. "Mr. Alejandro Gomez called Mr. Flores to his office, said 'hey, come get your money I owe you,' which is two hundred dollars. When Flores walked in the office he is shot by Gomez several times."

That's when Flores was shot.

Gomez is now charged with second degree attempted murder.

The chief said, "We never found a weapon at the scene," despite police finding Gomez wearing a holster after the shooting.

The disappeared gun led to Gomez also being charged with tampering with evidence.

Chief Dobson went public to clear Flores' name.

"This man Flores, people think he's a robber," said Dobson. "He's just a hard working man that wanted to be paid for services rendered for the job he did."
