Police Investigate Double Murder Inside Miami Gardens Home
MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) – More than a dozen Miami Gardens police officers, along with crime scene technicians, cordoned off a house late Tuesday morning with yellow crime tape as they investigated a double murder.
Neighbors lined the street to watch as officers searched the area around the home, at 3451 NW 207th Street, for evidence.
Tyrone Walker Sr., a decorated vet, said his 20-year old son Tyrone Walker Jr. and his grandmother, 70-year old Annette Anderson, were tied up, shot and killed in the house.
"You can't feel the pain that I'm feeling right now, when my wife called me at 10:30 from my job crying and screaming," said Walker Sr. "It was very devastating."
Walker said his son, who everyone called TJ, had moved from Jacksonville to South Florida so he could attend ITT Tech. Walker Jr., who had only been here three months, was going to school to earn a computer science degree.
"We sent our son here to go to college because we didn't want him to goof off so we knew we sent him to a good place," said Walker Sr. "I'm just sorry I wasn't here to protect him."
TJ's uncle, Pastor Virgil Walker, said he and the rest of the family were shocked that the college student and his grandmother were killed. He said he just couldn't understand why anyone would want to hurt an elderly woman who was a retired minister.
"She preached the gospel of Jesus Christ. She didn't bother anyone at all, in fact she helped more people than anything, she helped the helpless, helped the needy," said Walker.
"She would help you with anything, if it was spiritual advice, she was there for you. I just can't understand as to why someone would do this to her," said Tiara Walker.
The pair was discovered after a neighbor, who had not seen Anderson for several days, called police. Now the family is hoping someone will be able to help police track down those responsible.
"They're extremely dangerous. This could have been your family, you could have gotten the call that your family was murdered, you could have gotten the call," said Pastor Walker.
"How could you do this to an innocent elderly lady and a young man you didn't even know you didn't even know my son how could you do this?" cried Walker's mother Carolyn. "I just want to say to the person who did this, what you did you hurt your own community, because that lady that you took from this world she was out in the community fighting for you trying to make your community better."
