Philbin: We Didn't Play As Well As We Wanted Against the Falcons

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Coaches want you to believe that every opponent is the same, that every game is the same, that every win is the same.

It's a nice act, but Miami coach Joe Philbin knows that wasn't the case last Sunday, when his Dolphins beat the Falcons 27-23 to improve to 3-0. The Falcons, as you may recall, came within a play or two of the Super Bowl last year.

"We didn't play as well as we wanted," Philbin said on The John Feinstein Show. "There were a lot of things in the game that we thought we had to do that we actually didn't get done. Atlanta came in, controlled the tempo, they really moved the chains on us (and) held the football for a long time. But we were able to keep them out of the end zone on defense."

Indeed, the Falcons dominated time of possession 37:09 to 22:51 and rushed for 146 yards at 4.9 yards per pop. They were, however, just 2-for-5 in the red zone, whereas the Dolphins were 3-for-3.
