Person Of Interest Sought In Oakland Park Hit-And-Run

OAKLAND PARK (CBSMiami) – A person of interest has been named in a deadly hit and run accident in Oakland Park that claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy.

According to BSO, Christopher Thompson, 37, drives a 1995 black Chevy Tahoe and could have valuable information about the case.

The hit and run took place on Thursday, June 14th as 17-year-old Gabriel Amaya was riding his bike from east to west along Prospect Road just before 10 p.m.
Amaya was riding his bike home along Prospect and Powerline Roads when a SUV or pickup struck the front tire while he was in the crosswalk. Amaya was thrown from the bike into the roadway.

The suspect vehicle travelled a short distance. Detectives said the driver stopped, got out briefly and then drove away.

Amaya was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Detectives are looking for a 1995 to 1999, GMC or Chevrolet, pickup truck or SUV. It will have heavy damage to the left, front headlight, grill and side view mirror.
