Car crashes into Miami-Dade apartment building, leaving gaping hole and structure deemed uninhabitable

A car crashed into an apartment building in Opa-Locka on Monday afternoon, causing significant structural damage to the property.

A CBS News Miami crew documented the scene at Northwest 32nd Avenue and 132nd Terrace, where footage from the ground and Chopper 4 showed a gaping hole in the side of the building. Chunks of concrete were dislodged as a result of the impact.

The Opa-Locka Police Department reported that the driver of the vehicle suffered multiple injuries and was transported to Jackson North Medical Center. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the crash.

Chopper 4 captured a grey Ford Mustang convertible being towed from the site.

According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, the building sustained significant structural damage and has been deemed uninhabitable. Opa-Locka Code Compliance has posted notices on the property labeling it an "unsafe building."

CBS News Miami spoke off-camera with a resident who said she is unsure of her housing status and will need to consult her landlord.

Surveillance cameras are present on nearby homes facing the building.
