New Year, New You: Ayama Yoga

AVENTURA (CBS4) - We continue our series, New Year New You, with a new way experience yoga.

One teacher in South Florida wants people to know it is more than heavy breathing and meditation. It is also a good way to get your body in shape.

Yoga is a spiritual exercise which helps you find a connection. People use their body to clear their cluttered mind and soul, but few know that the ancient practice of yoga is a good workout.

"It is also one of the best workouts we can use when we want to get in shape and lose some weight," said Mariano Ardissone, owner of the Ayama Yoga Center in Aventura.

Ardissone practices Vinyasa with his students.

"Where we move from one pose to another in a non-stop flowing way," said Ardissone.

It's a dynamic Yoga that carries students from one pose to another working multiple muscles to create a cardio feel.

"We can bring up our heart rate sweat a lot and detoxify our body," Said Ardissone to CBS4's Jorge Estevez, who went to a class to see the students first hand.

The moves are fluid. They keep students' attention while Ardissone designs a session that maximizes results.

And the right yoga style can also compliment your favorite workout.

"I encourage people not to drop everything they are doing and do only yoga, but include yoga as a way to stay healthier and injury free while they do other activities," said Ardissone.

The Ayama Yoga Center in Aventura has a special through January. They are offering unlimited classes for $100 dollars for the month.
