Man charged in connection to North Lauderdale double stabbing that killed 1 woman, hospitalized another

A man is in custody following a double stabbing investigation that killed one woman and critically injured another in North Lauderdale this weekend.

On Sunday, the Broward County Sheriff's Office announced they had arrested 56-year-old Vital Joseph for the double stabbing that killed Maguy Pouye and sent Isabelle Joseph to the hospital early Saturday morning.

At this time, he is currently booked in Brevard County Jail on three charges: first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and burglary of a dwelling with a battery.

The suspect and one of the victims knew each other

Around 1:50 a.m. Saturday, BSO received a call on the reported stabbing near 1800 Runners Way in North Lauderdale, prompting deputies and North Lauderdale Fire Rescue to respond. Upon arrival, deputies found two women – later identified as Pouye and Isabelle Joseph – suffering from stab wounds. According to BSO, the suspect fled the scene before they arrived.

The two women were taken to an area hospital by paramedics, where Pouye died from her injuries, BSO said. Meanwhile, Isabelle Joseph was treated for her injuries and was last listed in critical condition.

BSO's Homicide and Crime Scene Units responded shortly after to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. During the investigation, detectives determined that Vital Joseph, who used to live at the home and at one point was in a relationship with Pouye, was the suspect. However, though Isabelle and Vital Joseph share the same last name, BSO did not go into further details regarding the relationship between them.

Later Saturday night, Vital Joseph was arrested by Palm Bay Police with the help of the Florida Highway Patrol in Brevard County.
