Neighbor Rushed Into Burning Home To Save Boy

NE MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) - A north Miami-Dade boy owes his life to a very heroic woman who ran into a burning home to rescue him.

The fire broke out around 8 p.m. Wednesday in the 1000 block of NE 212nd Terrace.

On Thursday, it was revealed that the boy and his 16-year old girl were home alone and the boy may have been playing with fireworks which may have sparked the fire.

Flames from the fire quickly engulfed the home and spread to a residence next door.

Neighbors who smelled smoke ran outside to see where it was coming from.  Their son, Javier Castillo, said when they saw the flames and smoke coming from the house they ran to it.

"My mom was trying to help and open the door, but she couldn't," said Castillo.  "So then she went to the back yard so she could get Isaac and then they ran out and then the fire got bigger and bigger.  My mom was like a hero and she's like a brave little girl, like a super girl."

Isaac's sister was able to escape on her own.

The homeowners returned Thursday to board up the broken windows and salvage what they could.  Castillo thinks his friend Isaac may be to blame.

"It was 4th of July, he wanted to make it special," said Castillo, "so everyone would come out and play with him but he accidentally made it on fire."

Officially, the fire department said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
