Miramar City Manager Abruptly Announces Retirement

MIRAMAR (CBS4) - Miramar City Manager Robert Payton unexpectedly retired Monday night after serving the city for nearly four decades.

Robert Payton, 54, will retire effective immediately, according to city spokesman Romeo B. Lavarias.

According to CBS4 News partner The Miami Herald, Payton began working for Miramar as a garbage man and worked his way up to city manager in 2001.

Lavarias said Deputy City Manager Dr. Wazir A. Ishmael has been appointed as Interim City Manager.
