Although he would not go into specifics, Llanes  mentioned there will be changes to strengthen the departments relationship with the community.

He will also be battling to keep down crime within the city limits. In recent weeks there have been several shooting in his jurisdiction, including an apartment shoot out in Liberty City that left 3-year-old Ayanna Daniels with a bullet wound to the ankle.

On Sunday night, a drive-by  shooting in Overtown sent 5 people to the hospital.

"We are going to hit the ground running. I know what changes need to be made, I am going to collaborate with the staff to make sure they are long term and sustainable," said Llanes.

As Chief Llanes will only have a short time to implement his policing policies. He is set to retire in 2016.
