Man riding scooter killed by hit-and-run driver, Miami police say
An investigation is underway in Miami after investigators said a man was killed by a hit-and-run driver early Tuesday morning.
Few details have been released by police, but in a statement to CBS News Miami, they said that they responded to reports of a man lying in the road in the area of Northwest 7th Avenue and Northwest 7th Street around 4 a.m.
"There was a Good Samaritan that was traveling southbound, saw a body in the middle of the street, and stopped to render aid, and also contacted police," Miami police officer Mike Vega said.
When they arrived at the scene, they said Miami Fire Rescue was transporting a man in his 30s to Ryder Trauma Center in Miami with critical injuries.
He was later pronounced dead, according to police.
Miami police added that their preliminary investigation showed that the man was riding a scooter when he was hit by a vehicle that then fled the scene.
"This is an advice to people that are driving and either hit a person, hit something, and they get scared because they don't have insurance, or they don't have a driver's license, or they don't have the registration with them," Vega continued. "If you don't have all these things, stay on the scene, do the right thing, and then eventually, all you're going to get is a ticket or a citation. But in this case, since the driver fled the scene, now he's facing at a more serious charge of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death."
The investigation is continuing.
