Video shows suspect sucker punching man with service dog outside Aldi in Broward, leaving victim in coma, deputies say
The Broward Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help identifying a man accused of attacking a customer outside an Aldi supermarket in Lauderdale Lakes, leaving the victim in a coma with severe head injuries.
Deputies responded to the incident at 3300 block of North State Road 7 on Oct. 11 around 7:20 p.m.
Confrontation caught on Aldi surveillance video
According to investigators, surveillance video showed the suspect arguing with the victim inside the store. The victim, who had a service dog with him, appeared to have exchanged words with the man about the animal.
Moments later, the video captured the victim walking out of the store with his dog. The suspect then "sucker punched" him, BSO said. The blow caused the victim to fall backward, striking his head and sustaining critical injuries.
Victim's family pleads for justice
The victim's relatives said he is a father and grandfather and "had to be put in a comma" due to his injuries.
"Justice would be finding who this guy is so that nobody else has to go through this," the victim's brother said.
