Lyft Driver Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Female Passenger On Miami Beach

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A Lyft driver is accused of sexually assaulting a female passenger on Miami Beach.

According to police, Kevyn Rojas, 27, picked up the tourist from Texas Saturday night in the Wynwood area. She would later tell police that she had been out drinking with a friend and was intoxicated.

In the drive to her hotel on Miami Beach, she said she fell asleep in the back of his car.

She said when she woke up, they were at the hotel, and then Rojas drove away to another location. He then parked, got in the back seat with her, and raped her as she pleaded with him to stop, according to the arrest report.

Rojas then dropped her off at the hotel. She immediately called the police.

Rojas was arrested Tuesday and he's being held on $500-thousand bond.

In response to the arrest, Lyft issued the following statement:

"Safety is fundamental to Lyft, and the behavior described is appalling. The driver has been permanently removed from the Lyft community and we stand ready to assist law enforcement with their investigation in any way we can."

The company said they screen everyone who drives for them before they give a single ride. They also conduct initial and annual background checks, continuous criminal and driving record monitoring, as well as community safety education created in consultation with RAINN, North America's largest anti-sexual violence organization.
