Local University Commemorates MLK With Civil Rights Movement Exhibition

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) --  In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, and in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of The Civil Rights Act, Nova Southeastern University Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale is presenting an exhibition featuring images of that era.

Renowned photographer Bob Adelman  was a photographer for many civil rights organizations at that time giving him a unique perspective of the events going on.

The exhibit called "The Movement: Bob Adelman and Civil Rights Era photography,"presented by Auto Nation, kicked off Saturday  afternoon at the museum.

It features 150 photographs of the movement providing a one of a kind look inside those years of struggle and considers how and why certain images have become emblematic of that time.

Adelman has photographed cover stories for Esquire, Time, Life , The New York Times magazine and many more.

Saturday afternoon's keynote speaker was Issac Newton Farris Jr., the nephew of Martin Luther King Jr.

The exhibit is on at the museum Saturday through May 17.
