Local Dance Group Gaining Fame

MIAMI (CBS4) - Using raw talent, expert precision, and a lot of heart South Florida dance group, "Twitch" shows South Florida's got skill.

"It's like contemporary, mixed with hip hop and pop and lock, and a little bit of all of us too," member Alexandra Betancourt explained to CBS4's Natalia Zea.

And they proved their unique style is a winner on the premiere of the new CBS Show, "Live to Dance". Dance acts of all ages compete every week the last group left standing will win $500,000.

Made up of 8 girls and 1 guy, the members of twitch have been dancing together at Southwest Miami-Dade studio Dance Attack, for years. It hasn't always been easy.

"We have rehearsal every day, at least three hours a day. If not longer," said Katie Di Fede.

The kids, ranging in age from 14 to 18 are quickly becoming famous.

"I actually had school this morning and people were coming up to me, people I'd never seen before, saying were you on TV last night? I was like uh yeah," Anthony Gonzalez said smiling.

Wednesday night, the kids from their dance studio gathered to watch the pre-recorded show in which Paula Abdul gives Twitch a pleasant surprise.

She shows up to their rehearsal and informs them they will advance to the next round with 17 other acts.

"I was really, really excited and happy. I started crying like a baby!" exclaimed member, Ivenise Ruidiaz.

They plan to go all the way in the show and take home the prize. But for them, the real gift is simply being recognized for being good at what they do. And they do it well.
