Lauderdale Lakes & BSO Deal Reached
LAUDERDALE LAKES (CBS4) – The City of Lauderdale Lakes and the Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) completed a deal to resolve a longstanding dispute over payments owed to the BSO for law enforcement and fire rescue services.
Under the agreement, the BSO will provide law enforcement, fire rescue, and code enforcement services which in turn will save the city approximately $2.8 million annually.
Of those savings, $1.6 million will be saved through the consolidation of certain police services with the Unincorporated Central Broward Police District. An additional $1.2 million will be saved through the provision of fire rescue services.
"This plan maintains support for public safety while taking significant steps to restore fiscal solvency to Lauderdale Lakes," said Lauderdale Lakes Mayor Barrington A. Russell.
The Central Broward Police District will also have an annual savings of approximately $500,000 thanks to the agreement.
The proposed 2012 Lauderdale Lakes budget was approved Monday, September 12. It will include full public safety funding totaling nearly $13 million for BSO services under the new deal.
