It Took Overtime, But FIU Trumped Troy 83-76
MIAMI (CBS4) – Florida International University was able to beat Troy State Saturday in an overtime game that ended up in a 83-76 win.
Marvin Roberts scored 26 points to lead FIU over Troy in the regular-season finale for both teams.
In a nail-biter, Jeremy Allen hit two consecutive 3-pointers in the first 1:37 of overtime and Roberts' three-point play with 56 seconds left gave the Panthers an 81-75 lead.
Allen and DeJuan Wright each finished with 16 points for the Panthers (10-18, 5-11 Sun Belt Conference).
Both teams had an opportunity to break a 72-72 tie during regulation, but Wright missed a reverse layup with 32 seconds remaining and Troy's Will Weathers drove for an 8-foot open jump shot, which bounced off the rim with 2 seconds to go.
Vernon Taylor's driving basket with 2:05 left gave the Trojans (8-20, 6-10) a 72-71 lead. FIU tied it at 72 on Wright's free throw with 1:42 left.
Regis Huddleston led Troy with 19 points.
