MIAMI - A woman's family is demanding answers after she becomes pregnant in a Miami-Dade jail.

The woman is Daisy Link and she's nearly four months pregnant.

Her sister says she has concerns because she's been incarcerated here at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center since 2022.

"We don't know what's going to happen to her. But we do know is Daisy should not be 4 months pregnant in that TGK jail," said Crystal Barreto, Daisy Link's sister.

Barreto said her family's life was flipped upside down this past Christmas.

Her sister called her from jail and told her she's pregnant and that she was sexually assaulted inside the jail.

"They never tried to give my sister a rape treatment. They never tried to see what really happened to her. Now they're coming up with all these different stories that they're trying to make up to cover it up," said Barreto.

As for the father? Link would not tell her sister the name of the man who she said attacked her.

"She called us today. We spoke to her in fear of her life. In fear that they're going to send in some girls to beat her up. And make her purposely have a miscarriage. She also says they are trying to mentally break her down in there," said Barreto.

We did receive a statement from Miami Dade corrections that read in part:

"The care, safety, and rehabilitation of all those in our custody remains our top priority. And while there is no evidence of sexual battery against our inmate at this time, the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy are currently under active investigation."

The family says more needs to be done.

"That they were going to investigate what happened. And that was it. We tried to get back in contact with them and they will not talk to us," said Barreto.

Barreto believes Miami Dade Corrections is not taking this case seriously, because of the crime allegedly committed by Link who is charged with second-degree murder.

"My sister is a human being. She deserves a right to due process. She deserves a right for this to be investigated and that unborn child also deserves a fighting chance and for medical care and to be properly care for," said Barreto.

According to Miami-Dade Corrections, Link notified them back on December 23rd that she maybe pregnant and tests later confirmed that.

As for the baby? Her sister says she hopes they can get custody as a family once the child is born.
