HOMESTEAD (CBSMiami) -- A young boy is recovering in the hospital after he was shot while inside his Homestead home.

The shooting took place just after midnight Saturday, July 9th, outside of a home near S.W. 278th Street and S.W. 132nd Court.

At least a dozen bullet holes peppered the home's exterior and shattered a sliding glass door.

Neighbors said the boy is about 12 years old.

"It was like six shots and suddenly I heard, like, a car going through on the side of the street," she said. "This is the second time this happened in this neighborhood."

At first, the distinct pop-pop-pop sound confused her.

"Just the sound of it, because, you know, we just had the fourth of July. So I thought maybe they were the fireworks? But it wasn't," she added. "I was just afraid. I didn't know what was happening."

The boy's condition is unknown.

If you have any information that could help police, you're urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
