Woman's body found on popular South Florida beach, police say foul play suspected

An investigation is underway after police say a woman's body was found on Hollywood Beach early Friday morning.

According to the Hollywood Police Department, officers were called to Hollywood Beach near Cleveland Street to investigate reports that a passerby had found someone dead on the sand shortly after 7 a.m. Friday.

Police said that when officers and Hollywood Fire Rescue arrived at the scene, they found a woman, who has only been identified as being in her 40s or 50s, dead.

In a Saturday update, Hollywood Police said that they suspect foul play and a person of interest has been identified. Police added that the person of interest and the victim knew each other, but provided no further details regarding their connection.

The Hollywood Police Department Detective Bureau is requesting assistance from the community, and anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Hollywood Police Department at (954) 967-4636 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-8477.
