Heat Forward Udonis Haslem Has Surgery On Foot

The Miami Heat announced late Tuesday afternoon that power forward Udonis Haslem had undergone successful surgery to repair the Lisfranc ligament in the mid-foot area.

The Heat could ill afford to lose Haslem with the team playing as poorly as it has been in the last few games. But, Haslem will be out indefinitely while he recovers from the surgery.

The Lisfranc ligament helps to stabilize the midfoot and helps preserve the arch of the foot. It can take a longer time for athletes to heal from a Lisfranc injury than other injuries in the foot.

Haslem had been leading all NBA bench players in rebounding at 8.2 per game. He also was contributing 8 points per game.

Ronnie Brown suffered a similar injury during the 2009 season. He was removed from the lineup in November 2009 and didn't come back from the injury until the beginning of the 2010 season.

With Haslem out indefinitely, the Heat released guard Jerry Stackhouse and signed center Erick Dampier to a one-year contract to help pick up the slack down low for the Heat.
