Harper: Hack-a-Whoever is 'Just Not Basketball'
DeAndre Jordan attempted 34 -- yes, thirty-four -- free throws last night in the Clippers' 128-95 blowout win against the Rockets. He made just 14.
This "Hack-a-Jordan" technique is an issue, notes CBS Sports' Zach Harper.
"The Clippers are just a much better team at what they do than what the Rockets are at what they do," Harper said on the Joe Rose Show With Curtis Stevenson on 560 WQAM. "So I get the strategy of trying to get the Clippers out of rhythm but in terms of just the overall product of the game, we have to get rid of this overall hack-a-whoever strategy.
"It's just not basketball. I get guys need to make their free throws. If they made their free throws this wouldn't be an issue but if you get rid of this play, you don't have them essentially playing a game of tag with DeAndre Jordan 80 feet from the hoop..."
Jordan is shooting almost twice as good from the field (73%) than from the line (42%) in the playoffs. His free-throw attempts have nearly doubled from the regular season as opponents look for desperate ways to beat the Clippers.
