11-year-old girl and her father injured after a shooting outside of a Broward McDonald's, police say

Police are searching for a suspect after a father and daughter were shot while sitting inside a car outside of a McDonald's in Hallandale Beach on Saturday afternoon.

Police have taped off the McDonald's along Hallandale Beach Boulevard since approximately 1:30 p.m. While investigators believe the shooting was an attempted ambush of a specific person at the restaurant, they stated that the victims were not the intended targets.

"We do believe that one of the parties involved was a McDonald's employee," said Megan Jones of the Hallandale Beach Police Department.

According to police, the victims' wife/mother was inside the restaurant picking up food at the time of the incident. Upon hearing the gunfire, she exited the building and discovered her husband and child had been shot.

"We had two innocent bystanders here injured due to an altercation that had nothing to do with them," Jones said.

Officials said that the girl was conscious and alert. Both she and her father were transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Authorities have not released a description of the shooter, and the investigation into the cause of the altercation is ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Hallandale Beach Police Department.
