MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Governor Rick Scott has ordered flags for the State of Florida and United States to be flown at half- staff at all local, state, and federal buildings, installations and grounds throughout Florida in honor of the victims at the Washington Navy Yard.

Flags will remain at half-staff until sunset September 30.

At least 13 people were killed, including Alexis. ]

Police said Alexis was killed in a running gun battle with them.

Authorities said Aaron Alexis, 34, from Fort Worth, Texas, went on a shooting rampage at the Navy Yard early Monday morning around 8:20 a.m.

Later Monday, it was revealed Alexis was a former Navy reservist and Defense Department contractor.

As of Monday night, investigators did not have a motive for the shooting.
