FPL Smokestacks Brought Down In Riviera Beach
RIVIERA BEACH (CBS4)- It was out with the old, in with the new, Sunday morning in Riviera Beach when a construction company brought down two 300 foot tall smokestacks at a Florida Power and Light plant.
A series of explosive charges inside the stacks were detonated at 8:30 a.m.
The 1960s-era, oil-fired power production plant is being replaced with a new $1.3 billion natural gas-fired power plant. Construction is expected to begin next spring and completed in 2014.
