Flashdance Comes To Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – The story of Alex, a beautiful Pittsburgh steel welder who dreams of becoming a professional dancer, was a 1983 box office smash with a GRAMMY-award winning soundtrack.

The film launched the career of Jennifer Beals and the one-shouldered sweatshirt fashion phenomenon.

More than 30 years later, Emily Padgett is playing Alex in "Flashdance The Musical".

"I wasn't born when the movie came out, so I went back and saw the movie to get the whole 80's vibe. The movie and the play are so so 80's", said Padgett.

Matthew Hydzik plays Nick, her boss at the steel mill.

"This is a love story, and in this play, it's even more of a love story than the movie," said Hydzik.

"Flashdance The Musical" features all of the songs from the movie including "Maniac", "Gloria", "Manhunt", plus 16 brand new songs.

The touring production will lead to Broadway in the months to come. For the first time, fans around the country are enjoying some 80's nostalgia with a cast that's ready to re-start the party.

"Flashdance The Musical" is on now through March 17 at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
