Feds Put Fowey Rocks Lighthouse Up For Auction
MIAMI (CBS4) - A popular spot for boaters and divers, the historic Fowey Rocks Lighthouse off Key Biscayne is on the auction block.
The picturesque lighthouse is one just one of a dozen historic lighthouses being let go by the federal government because of related expenses and upkeep responsibilities.
Listed on the National Register of Historic places, the run down dock and tower of the 133-year-old lighthouse are currently off-limits.
Interested parties must prove they can preserve and maintain the lighthouse for public use. The lighthouse will still be used as a navigational aid, with the Coast Guard in charge of the beacon.
