Dirty Little Secrets Debuts At Arsht Center
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – Some might recognize his face from the popular reality show that ran on Bravo a few years ago called Queer Eye for the Straight Guy; but Jai Rodriguez was actually schooled in the world of live theatre performing for many years in "Rent" on Broadway.
"I used to be that guy from Rent; then all of a sudden it was, 'Look, there's that guy from that TV show,'" said Jai.
It's not rent that bring Jai to South Florida though. Beginning Friday night, Jai takes to the South Florida stage at the Adrienne Arsht Center in City Theatres Summer Shorts Festival where he'll star in his own late night cabaret style show called "Dirty Little Secrets."
"What's so great about it is its theater for the remote control audience, much like SNL," Jai said. "The pieces are hilarious and funny. We also have touching pieces and in case you have attention span issues this is the show for you," laughed Jai.
In 90 minutes, you'll essentially see seven plays.
In Summer Shorts, Jai's a bit of a chameleon as his characters range from an Israeli soldier on the front lines, to a misbehaved girl with a bad potty mouth.
"It's very rare you get to showcase so many roles in one evening. It's a wonderful opportunity and a great acting exercise shows," said Jai.
So whether you're a fan of live theatre or not, Jai said you got to love Summer Shorts because it's like nothing you've seen before.
"It moves fast, quick and it's funny, you are constantly entertained," said Rodriguez.
Summer Shorts is on inside the Carnival studio at The Adrienne Arsht Center now through June 26. Then it goes to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in July.
