Copper Thieves Strike "The Glades" Production Set

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – South Florida's infamous copper thieves have struck again – this time on the television production set of a group of fictional TV cops.

The Broward Sheriff's Office has released surveillance tape of a pair of burglaries which occurred on a production set of A&E's The Glades which is shot in South Florida.

The first burglary occurred on April 9th. Security cameras captured two men drive onto the set in a white Ford 150 and steal about $20,000 worth of copper cables which ran from two generators to power air conditioners. The surveillance video shows the pickup driving into a parking lot filled with trailers. Two men get out and take about 2,000 feet of cable from two generators.

On Monday, April 30, a similar video shows a red Ford F-150 doing the same thing. This time, the two suspects took about 300 feet of copper cable valued at about $3,000.

The Glades, which has been renewed for a third season, stars Matt Passmore ass Chicago detective Jim Longworth who takes a job with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement after he's falsely accused of sleeping with his captain's wife. He assumes South Florida will offer a more relaxed life style but learns that things can get complicated.

Anyone with information about these thieves can contact BSO detectives Phillip Love or Greg Murphy at (954) 985-1953 or Crime Stoppers of Broward County at (954) 493-TIPS (8477) or online at Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.
