Chemical Blast Levels Pembroke Park Mobile Home

PEMBROKE PARK (CBS4) – There's nothing left but a big pile of rubble where a South Florida mobile home once stood.

Chemicals being used to demolish the vacant mobile home caused an explosion Wednesday afternoon, according to Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles.

The explosion took place at the Lake Park Mobile Home community in the 300 block of Marine Drive in Pembroke Park.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue crews got the call at 5 p.m. after neighbors reported heavy fire coming from the vacant home. According to fire investigators, the mobile home was in the process of being demolished when chemicals used for the demolition ignited the trailer.

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to extinguish the blaze. Firefighters also kept the fire from engulfing neighboring mobile homes but two homes did receive some damage. Both of those mobile homes are seasonal homes so nobody was home and nobody was hurt.
