Caught on video: Woman attacked two men after crash on MacArthur Causeway
MIAMI - A woman was caught on camera attacking a man with a sharp object after a crash involving a BMW on the MacArthur Causeway.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 26-year-old Acklynn Byamugisha was driving a black BMW and stopped partially blocking the right eastbound lane just before 7 a.m. An oncoming white Toyota SUV slammed into it. After the crash, the FHP said the occupants of both vehicles got into a confrontation.
Chopper4 over the scene spotted the crash near Biscayne Boulevard. A short distance away a woman, identified as Byamugisha who appeared to have a screwdriver in her hand, was seen following two men, one whom was on the phone.
When she appeared to go after the man on the phone and made stabbing-like gestures, the other man intervened.
The trio struggled briefly before the men were able to push away from her. She followed, pointing the object in her hand at them. She then charged them and one of the men fell to the ground. As they struggled, the second man tried to pull her off of him.
A third man then arrived and pulled her off the two men. He was able to back her away from them as the two men walked off in the opposite direction.
Byamugisha was arrested. A check of records shows that she has been cited three times in the past for traffic infractions.
According to a new report from FHP, the fight involved Byamugisha and the man who allegedly rear-ended his car, Freddy Diaz, and Diaz's father.
The report said that Byamugisha claimed that Diaz's father showed up after the crash and was "very threatening and physically grabbed her and pulled her hair."
The report said she entered the father's vehicle and grabbed his screwdriver and a bottle of Windex and sprayed them with it.
Byamugisha has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is currently in custody.
CBS News Miami's Peter D'Oench went to a home that was Byamugisha's last known address in Miami but a neighbor said she had left that address and had moved to Georgia.
Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in this incident.
The accident led to the closure of several lanes on the causeway and backed traffic up for miles.
