BSO Warning Tamarac Residents To Beware Of Man Posing As Utility Worker

TAMARAC (CBS4) - The Broward Sheriff's Office warned residents of a Tamarac condominium complex to beware of a man posing as a utility worker trying to get into their homes.

The alert from authorities comes a day after two residents reported a man wearing a baseball cap and a blue uniform shirt knocked on their doors claiming to be fixing a water system problem at the Lime Bay Condos in Tamarac Wednesday afternoon, BSO said.

Neighbors on Thursday were cautious about opening doors to strangers, including the CBS 4 News crew.

"I don't open the door for anybody," a woman named Joanne told CBS 4's Lauren Pastrana through her front door.

"I say, 'Who is it?'and if I can't hear them, I open the window," Terry Costello said.

Costello's neighbor, Roz Reines, said she knew better than to let the man inside.

"He says, 'We're having a little problem with the water pressure down the block here. I wanted to check your pressure.' I said, 'I'm not letting you in.'"

An alert posted on a community bulletin board clued residents in to the possible threat.

The notice advises people to call the office to confirm work was scheduled before letting anyone in.

Reines hopes spreading the word will remind people of what some may consider common sense advice.

"Keep the door closed," Reines said. "Make sure you don't allow a stranger into the house."
