Father Of Two Gunned Down, Killed On Fort Lauderdale Street

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Broward Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating a shooting that left one person dead in Fort Lauderdale early Monday morning.

It was just before 6:00 a.m. when gunfire jolted people out of bed on NW 6th Court and 27th Avenue near Fort Lauderdale.

"I heard shots, like between 4 and 5 shots about 5:30 in the morning," said one woman who called 911.

Neighbors did not want to be identified.

"Between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., heard about 4 gunshots," said another resident.  "And then probably 15-20 minutes later, police came and a young gentleman was lying on the floor deceased," she said.

Family members say the victim was 27-year-old Willis Wyche who was gunned down on the street and left to die.  Everyone calls him Zoe.

His mother said shortly before the fatal gunshots, he was a target.

"All he told me was he got in a fight," she said. "They came to our house and messed up the windows and shot in our house."

That was the last time she saw her son.

"I said 'Don't go back out there!' He said, 'No, they trying to game me and I don't want more pressure on the house,' so he left."

Crying she said, "Who knows I wasn't going to see him no more!"

Wyche was a father.  He has two little girls ages 4 and 5.  He also has a twin brother.

Despite his violent death, his mom said he was kind man.

"My son was a quiet, good hearted person, didn't bother anybody," his mom said.

If anyone has any information about the shooting, you are asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
