Guard Of Armored Truck Robbed In Sunrise

SUNRISE (CBSMiami) – Gunfire rang out in front of Sunrise credit union when two men robbed a Brinks guard.

It happened around 10 a.m. in the front parking lot of the Space Coast Credit Union at Atrium West, located at 7771 W Oakland Park Boulevard.

When one of the guards, carrying a bag of money, left the truck to enter the credit union, he was jumped by the two armed men. The guard was force to the ground and the money bags were ripped from his grasp.

The two men then took off. The guards fired on the car and may have hit the driver.

"It's a traumatic experience to go through," said FBI Spokesperson Mike Leverock.

According to Leverock, because of bloodstains found in the stolen white Honda that the two assailants escaped in from the Credit Union, they believe that the driver may have been hit by the bullets fired from the gun the Brinks worker used.

"And it appears it could have been in the leg but certainly any gunshot wound that anybody knows fits the description, we want to hear from them.  Call the FBI or Crime Stoppers," said Leverock.

After ditching the Honda, the gunmen jumped into a waiting car on the other side of the parking lot.

"They fled in a silver, four door Lexus approximately a 2001 with a spoiler on the back and a dent where you put the car key in the trunk," said Leverock.

Yellow tape enclosed a white Honda with bullet holes in its sides and flat tires at the other end of the parking lot.

Mike Johnson who works in an office building behind the credit union was in the parking lot when the shooting started.

"I thought I heard fireworks, then continued shots," said Johnson.

"At first I was confused, and then I realized we're in the middle of a gunfight!" said Johnson.  The people he was with ran for cover.

"It was very scary and your adrenaline really starts pumping after that," said Johnson.

Anyone with information is urged to call the FBI or Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
