Bowles Takes Charge For Dolphins
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – The Miami Dolphins returned to the practice field Wednesday without Tony Sparano as the head coach for the first time in nearly four years.
Interim head coach Todd Bowles took over for Sparano after the former coach was fired on Monday. Bowles, 48, has already been guaranteed an interview for the permanent head coaching position after the next season.
Bowles is no stranger to the NFL scene. He was a starting safety with the Washington Redskins that won Super Bowl XXII. He had an eight-year career with the Redskins and San Francisco 49ers.
The Dolphins have been Bowles' home since January 2008. He has served as the assistant head coach/secondary coach for his entire time with the Fins. Prior to that, he spent three years as the secondary coach with the Cowboys.
But Bowles may face a tall task in his first game. According to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero, Pro Bowl left tackle Jake Long, and quarterback Matt Moore, are not practicing Wednesday. In addition, Koa Misi wasn't on the field Wednesday either.
