Best Late-Night Activities Beyond Bars In South Florida

Miami is said to be party central of the U.S. and travel magazines and guides have plenty of suggestions when it comes to nightlife. Not everybody is keen to bar hopping and the club scene. Whether local or visitor, we've got news for you. Miami offers fun, diverse somewhat nerdy activities that will drag you out of your hotel room or your couch without involving bottle service or standing in line behind red ropes.

Subject of news and reportage, Yoga in the Park has been acclaimed as a Miami tradition almost as much as the Freedom Tower. On Mondays and Wednesdays around 6 p.m., people are crossing the street to the park in yoga attire with mats in hand. This has become a regular scene in a very hectic downtown. Come on out for a cleansing evening of mediation and relaxation. You must be at least 18 years old to participate and sign a waiver prior to the start of class.

In Miami Beach, we have the only Standard of the hotel chain equipped with a full functioning spa. It took the space of the art deco Lido Spa Hotel built by Morris Lapidus. This an ideal spot for some of the most beautiful sunsets set to the backdrop of smooth music. Since its opening, the Sunday tradition of bingo has remained from years past. A free visit of the Planetarium in the early evening will give you shivers and bring you to the stars. The program goes until 10 p.m. with  a "Family Laser Show" and plenty of epic music from The Beatles, Bob Marley and Pink Floyd. As an added bonus, if the weather permits, rooftop observatory visits will be allowed.

Parks have creatively reinvented their functions in Miami. Besides the conventional camping areas, trekking tracks and barbecue and birthday party spots, why not enjoy free movie nights like those featured at the North Shore Park Bandshell? The park underwent almost a year of restoration to bring the weathered structure to current standards and the historical amphitheater to its original glory. Movies are projected every Friday starting at sundown and they are suitable for kids and adults. Just bring blankets, drinks, snacks and let the sky do the magic.

Wynwood Art District is a vibrant stretch of art institutions encrusted east of Biscayne Boulevard and south of the Design District. Each Saturday of the month, it's a happy feast where kids and adults are able to experience art in every form. Galleries are open to the public, some collections decide to open for that month, food trucks provide the most eclectic selection of street foods only found in South Florida and, on occasion, graffiti artists perform at Wynwood Walls. Bring yourself and a pair of comfortable shoes and Wynwood will do the rest.
